Traveling with a solar oven

Traveling in my RV means living small.
If it's going to take up space, it has to matter. I used to carry both wood and propane. But i always seemed to run out of one or the other. Then there were the times i would end up in a fire free zone.
My portable solar oven, the Dual Sport Solar Oven, does triple duty. It takes up little space PLUS it means less space dedicated to propane or fuel tanks. No wood or charcoal! All that enables me to not worry about fire restrictions or ending up in a "bring your own wood" only area. I realized the vast majority of my fuel was used preparing food.
One of my joys these days is getting a few loaves of bread going in the oven before I leave for a hike or ride. I return to camp smelling fresh baked bread as i get close! Two large loaves of fresh bread will last a few days, even for this carb addict!
Cooking with the sun has also moved me forward in my goal of becoming more prepared, more self-sufficient. I like knowing I am ready to take care of myself regardless of the availability of fuel. There is something very comforting knowing you need not rely on other sources to take care of yourself. That is a hard thing to ensure with all the variables in life, but cooking with solar energy, just THE SUN, makes it easier to realize.
I also can't help but notice folks out there talking about packing up their trash when leaving the forest, or "leaving no trace". All the while releasing smoke throughout the area all day. Burning propane gas three of four times a day. I was "that guy" for a long time and to be honest, didn't even see the irony in my actions until i started to really ponder the impact of solar cooking on the environment!
My solar journey has opened my eyes to the way i can be part of the solution to the environmental impact of deforestation. Living green! Help me see how i can enjoy the great outdoors without being tethered to a firepit. And, how fantastic the smell of fresh baked bread is when mixed with a cool breeze thru the pine trees. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
